The Dell XPS M1730 wants one thing: to attract attention.

For this reason the gaming notebook has an attractive appearance, like...

...the attractive glossy paintwork.

But really impressive is the XPS with dimmed light,...

...and enabled LED illumination.

The illumination provides a good range of colors and effects.

Also the form of the XPS is despite its size,...

...and weight of nearly 5kg (PSU additional 1.5kg) quite good-looking.

so the M1730 can be expected to be present at every LAN party.

But the XPS is not only good-looking,...

...also the workmanship of the console is ok,...

...only somewhat too big slits don’t fit the image.

The notebook with its thickness of maximal 50mm convinces with its…

...robust construction and the usage of aluminium parts at the base unit.

The ports are located in the rearward area of the chassis.

Provided is among others a DVI-D-I port for analog and digital monitor connection.

Moreover the XPS can be ordered with UMTS.

Standard is a WLAN hardware switch and the WiFi-Catcher to find wireless networks.

The keyboard contrasts with the case.

Especially the illumination of the keyboard is impressive.

A nice feature is the Logitech Gaming Panel for additional information at the gaming.

The 17 inch WUXGA display with a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels provides great oversight and brightness.

The weak point of the panel is the strong reflecting surface.

The hardware provides power: Core 2 Duo (extreme) CPU, Geforce 7800MGT SLI Graphic and PhysiX accelerator.

Despite the good performance of the notebook the fan never became very loud.

Also the surface temperature was always ok.

Only the battery runtime was not so good, but this is for a DTR console less a priority.
